Easily acquire your Ugandan passport.

Prior to the e-passport application format, the manual process of acquiring a passport in Uganda was unnecessarily long and tedious making traveling a dreadful experience. On top of the length of the procedures, for a smoother experience, one had to part with a decent amount of money.

Like it comes to our notice every other day, technology has brought life to us on a silver spoon. The process became shorter and was reduced from seven days of the application to 48hours. It’s now less costly and relatively more efficient. The new process of acquiring a passport is broken down here in a few steps.

Step 1: The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uganda have a running online portal http://www.passports.go.ug that one can access on any device with access to the internet.

Step 2: After clicking on the link the home page with various options will display and if it’s your first time you select the option of first time application. (Start New Application)

Step 3: Accept the disclaimer terms and conditions after reading through of-course.

Step 4: Answer the simple security questions thereafter you’ll be required to fill in the application form and attach a number of documents that prove your Citizenship. These include a copy of your national ID, passport photos, and so on.

Step 5: Complete the passport application form and print the Passport Application Payment Advice Form. You then acquire a payment reference number for the type of passport being applied for.

How much does the Ugandan passport cost?

The Passport costs Uganda Shillings UGX 250,000 for normal applications or UGX 400,000 for Express applications (UGX 250,000 for Ordinary Passports and UGX 150,000 for Express Processing making the total of UGX 400,000), UGX 400,000 for Official Passports and UGX 500,000 for Diplomatic Passports.

Step 6:Make the payments  using the selected payment method and acquire evidence of your payment and then attach it your application.

Step 7: Schedule an appointment date using the link on the portal home page. and finally

Step 8: Print the passport appointment form

There you go, your online application procedure is finished, all you have to do now is wait for your appointment date. Report to the selected passport Centre with the passport appointment form with the appropriate application requirements displayed on the website, for enrolment.

How long does it take to acquire the Ugandan passport?
