Spotify has introduced a new feature called Spotify Jam, designed to enhance the music listening experience for groups of users. In a recent announcement, the streaming service described Jam as a personalized, real-time listening session that allows friends to tune in together. This feature builds upon popular social aspects of the platform and combines them with Spotify’s personalization technology to elevate real-time group listening.
How To Use Spotify Jam
To use Jam, users need to ensure they have the latest version of the Spotify app installed. A Premium account holder initiates a Jam session, which can be joined by any Spotify user, regardless of their account type.
To start a Jam, users select a playlist or song they’re excited about, and they can find a “Start a Jam” button by clicking the speaker icon at the bottom of their screen or by accessing the three-dot menu within their favorite playlist or song.
Here you can share a QR code, or tap Share link and send it to your friends. You can also tap your phones together to get them to join the Jam if you’re logged in to Spotify and your Bluetooth is turned on.
Users can also choose the device on which they want to play the music, whether it’s their phone or a speaker. People in the same household on the shared Wi-Fi network will also receive prompts to join the Jam when they open Spotify.
Once the Jam is set up and multiple users are participating, everyone in the session can contribute songs to the queue, view who added each song, and receive music recommendations on their own devices. The host of the Jam enjoys advanced control, allowing them to manage the participants, modify the track order, or remove songs that don’t fit the mood.
Spotify has also released a promotional video showcasing this feature. For more details about Jam, you can explore it further on the Spotify platform.
