Unlike other messaging platforms, Telegram is built to accommodate bots effortlessly. It has a user-friendly interface and works on all types of devices.

These include; iOS, android, windows, or any other platform that supports web versions. Some of these bots are very useful and some of them are just meant to be fun.

In this short guide, we’ll answer a few critical questions like;

  • What is a Telegram bot?
  • How to use Telegram bots
  • What Telegram bot can do?

Don’t worry if you’re not a coder. The process is simple and requires a few steps that you’ll complete in no time.

What is a Telegram Bot?

Like any other chatbot you’ve come across in social media, a Telegram bot is a small program you embed on Telegram channels or public channels with AI features.

Contextually, Telegram bots can be compared to special accounts that don’t require a telephone number to create.

Now that this is out of the way let’s look at the step-by-step process of creating a Telegram bot without coding.

Step 1: Create an Account with Telegram and Chat with the Botfather

First, download the Telegram app for desktop. Once that is done, type @botfather in your Telegram search bar to interact with Telegram’s primary bot, the BotFather.

To trigger a response, type/start.on the BotFather, which will give you a list of commands. We’ve included screenshots to show you how the process goes.

The command will request you to either create or edit your bots. Since you’re creating your first bot, click on /newbotThis takes us to the second step.

Step 2: Create a Name and Username to Get your Token

The /newbot.command will ask you to name your bot and give it a username.

After giving the /newbot command, you get to pick a name and username for your bot. The name is what your users will see the bot as in their contacts list, and the username is how they’ll find it. Think of the username like a Twitter handle; it has to be unique, and it’s best if it’s short and memorable.

You get a token back after creating the username. The token is required to control the bot and send it to the Bots API.

Keep it safe and don’t show it to anyone. Some people can do crazy stuff with your bot. You’ll need the token later.

In case someone steals your token, or you lose it, leverage the token command to generate a new one.
